Zoe Saldana was born on June 19, 1978 in Passaic, New Jersey, U.S. During her younger years, she studied dance while living in the Dominican Republic. After they returned to the US, she became active in theater acting. She later joined New York Youth Theater. In 2000, she made her film debut in Center Stage. Prior to this, she had her first TV appearance in Law & Order.

In 2002, she played a supporting role in the Britney Spears-starring movie Crossroads. She next appeared as Anamaria in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Later in the 2000s, she starred as Nyota Uhura in Star Trek. At the same time, she played Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar, cementing her fame. In the 2010s, she’s best known for playing Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Guardians of the Galaxy.
