Ooh, I could be your barker, spreading the tales of Geralt of Rivia, the Butcher of Blaviken. Julian Alfred Pankratz, better known as Jaskier (b. 1222 ), was a bard and a close friend of Geralt of Rivia .

The name change means that the show is closer to the source material than the games are. Jaskier remains Jaskier and not the Dandelion that fans of the games and the English translations of the books have come to know the character as. It is unconfirmed if Jaskier will be in future seasons of the show.

Jaskier is a rather prominent character in the series, and is adored by most The Witcher fans. It was said that keeping at least this character’s original name pays tribute to the show’s origins rather than its translations.

Funny how in russian it’s also jaskier/ buttercup, “лютик” which sounds very similar to “лютня” — lute, which is his instrument of choice. 2 Share ReportSave Continue this thread level 1 · 3 yr. ago ‘Jaskier’ is an original Polish nickname of Dandelion (real name Julian Alfred Pankratz vicecount de Lettenhove).

Is Dandelion the same as Jaskier?

The issue is purely a translation issue; Jaskier and Dandelion are the same person. When the books were translated from Polish, the bard’s name Jaskier became Buttercup for a brief time. The translator did not think that the name Buttercup fit with the personality of the character and decided to change the name to Dandelion.

Who was Geralt’s friend?

The important thing in this story is that Dandelion was a friend to Geralt of Rivia – possibly his only true friend. He was Geralt’s confidant, advisor, and companion in misery (for it was impossible to experience good fortune in the witcher’s company).

In the marketplace he marveled at the sights and services, noticing he was being tailed by two men, and so rode on to the Oxenfurt Academy, where he signed in at the main gate and watched the students and tutors hard at work.

Believing the bard had betrayed him, Whoreson Junior’s men chased Dandelion and Ciri all the way to Temple Isle. Ciri manged to barely escape from being killed by teleporting away, but Dandelion was unfortunately captured by Menge’s men and was jailed while Menge waited to publically execute the bard on Oxenfurt.

After the last brother fell, Shani cried out and attempted to run and heal them as she was a medic, though Dandelion held her and told her it was too unsafe. The following is considered game canon only and may contradict Andrzej Sapkowski ‘s works.
