Yesterday, Quentin Oliver Lee, a performer in New York’s theater and opera, died of colon cancer. He was most recently spotted earlier this year in Heather Christian’s Oratorio for Living Things, a renowned and award-winning Off-Broadway play. He was 34. Lee performed in Caroline or Change and Prince of Broadway on Broadway.

A Phantom of the Opera touring cast member passes away from cancer. Colon cancer was the cause of death for Quentin Lee. He just revealed that in the month of May, he received a stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis.
On a GoFundMe website in June of last year, Lee revealed his diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer. He acknowledged that it was challenging for him to perform while undergoing chemotherapy, having surgery, and managing these unpleasant cancer symptoms.
Lee has performed on Broadway in several productions, including Prince of Broadway in 2017 and Caroline, or Change in 2021, both of which he understudied for the parts of the Bus and the Dryer. He understudied in Diane Paulus’ touring production of Porgy and Bess and spent more than a year on the road as the Phantom of the Opera.

The Phantom of the Opera’s US Tour featured Quentin Oliver Lee as the Phantom. In addition to Giuseppe in The Gondoliers, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, and Pandolfe in Cendrillon, Lee has performed in several roles on stage. With the NAU Opera, he also performed the lead in Gianni Schicchi, Sid in Albert Herring, and Belcore in L’elisir D’amore.
He appeared as a guest soloist for the Sedona Opera Saloons, as a soloist for the MLK Day celebration in Jax Beach, Florida, as a soloist with the Flagstaff Master Chorale, and as a performer at the Romanian Embassy in New York.
In both the National Association of Teachers of Singers Artist Awards and the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Mr. Lee placed as a Western Regional Finalist. Quentin was also recognized as a Semi-Finalist in the Classical Singer National Auditions and the New York Lyric Opera National Competition.
