Influencer Trevor Jacob just acknowledged that in November 2021 he deliberately wrecked an airplane to increase his YouTube views.

The 29-year-old had flown solo with a parachute and a selfie stick out of Santa Barbara, California.

To document his travels, cameras were put on his aircraft. His aircraft crashed at the Los Padres National Forest in New Cuyama, California, after 35 minutes of flight time.

Following a hike to the crash scene to acquire the camera footage, the social media sensation released the clip to YouTube in December 2021. The video has since gained over 2.9 million views.

Some of his viewers at the time questioned the crash’s veracity, pointing out that he had done very nothing to try to stop it.

The crash was in fact purposeful, according to a federal inquiry into the incident, and Jacob has subsequently accepted a guilty deal, confirming that he made the video as part of a commercial sponsorship agreement he had.

The YouTuber may face up to 20 years in jail if found guilty of impeding a federal investigation by cleaning up the crash site. His initial court hearing is scheduled for the upcoming weeks.
