Who Is Jennifer Chavis?
Jennifer Chavis, 32, is a police officer who was pulled over on the side of the Beltway at 6 p.m. Saturday after responding to a call about a suspected drunk driver.
When the collision occurred, the deputy constable was on his way to intercept the vehicle.
When the vehicle ignited, the drunk driver veered and struck Chavis’ vehicle, pushing it along the beltway.
The driver, Adolfo Serrano, 36, was traveling westbound on the Beltway when he collided with the back of Chavis’ patrol vehicle, causing it to catch fire.
Serrano was arrested after the deputy constable died on the spot.

Officials reported Sunday that a suspected drunk driver has been charged in the death of a Houston area deputy constable after smashing into the back of the officer’s vehicle, causing it to explode into flames.
As per the to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, authorities received complaints about a possibly intoxicated motorist in a huge truck fleeing an accident around 6 p.m. Saturday.
According to authorities, Deputy Constable Jennifer Chavis of Harris County Precinct 7 stopped her patrol car on the sidewalk of a Houston freeway and waited for the driver to pass before following him and pulling him over.
According to Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Capt. Anthony McConnell, the motorist, ended up ramming into the back of Chavis’ patrol cruiser.
Several witnesses jumped out after the collision and stopped the suspected intoxicated driver, later identified as Adolfo Serrano, from fleeing.
“My heart is breaking, and all I ask is that you pray for the family and friends of this officer,” McConnell said.
Serrano was hurt in the accident and was taken to the hospital. Serrano, 36, was charged with manslaughter by the drunkenness of a peace officer.
