His mother Elizabeth was a school teacher. And his father used to work at Owens-Illinois. His mother was from New Jersey and his father was from Pennsylvania. He hasn’t made many references to his parents in the public, though. His father used to work as a corning glass executive at Ownes-Illinois. Due to his father’s work they had to move to Ohio where Douglas spent his early childhood.

Similarly, he did his M.A in U.S diplomatic history in 1983 and a PH.D. in 1989.  For his contributions to American literature, Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, awarded him an honorary doctorate.

Brinkley, an author, professor, historian, social activist, and editor has written more than a dozen books. He is a professor at Rice University where is taught History. He is also a member of the New-York Historical Society and overlooks as Presidential Historian. He is also a contributing other to Vanity Fair a popular magazine. He is also a history commentator for CNN. He has also been part of Vatican Revealed (1999), Going Upriver (2004), and The Rosa Park Story (2002).
