He was married to his long-time girlfriend, Ruth Schindel and together they welcomed four children who have been identified as Judith Midler, Susan Midler, Daniel Midler, and Bette Midler. He worked at a Navy base in Hawaii as a painter and was also a house painter.

Fred sadly passed away in 1986 at the age of 78. His cause of death is still unknown as of now.
