Hartono studied at the University of Mississippi, played tennis during college, and became the first Dutch player to win the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship. The same year she won the Honda Sports Award, given to the top female collegiate tennis player.

Arianne Hartono was born to Lieke and Okki Hartono in Groningen, Netherlands. Her parents moved to the Netherlands from Indonesia in the 1990s.

Lieke and Okki are of Indonesian origin, making Arianne of Indonesian ethnicity. Her parents, originally from a village in Indonesia, moved to the Netherlands so that her father could get a better job.
