First City Monument Bank’s founder, FCMB Otunba Michael Olasubomi Balogun, allegedly passed away. According to ThisDay, the Olori Omoba of Ijebuland reportedly passed away on Friday morning in London.
Balogun was 89 years old and was Otunba Tunwase of Ijebuland. To start First City Merchant Bank, he sought for a merchant banking license in 1979.
Balogun visited Siegmund Warburg in London before starting his merchant bank because Warburg, who co-founded S.G. Warburg, had impressed him with his business ideas. He frequently relates the anecdotal tale of how his kid motivated him to launch the bank.
