He was born James Lablache Stewart on May 6, 1913, to his parents; Major James Stewart his father and Frederica Eliza (née Lablache) his mother. Although Stewart made sure to get an education, he didn’t suppress his fondness for the performing arts. He attended Epsom College and also enrolled in the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. There he honed his acting skills while seeking film roles.

Stewart Granger began his career in 1933 as a minor in the musical film, The Song You Gave Me. He also had additional roles in other productions such as, Over the Garden Wall (1934) and A Southern Maid (1934). Granger’s debut also included several theatrical activities. But he gained popularity with his participation in a series of Gainsborough melodramas. After a successful stint in the theatre, the late actor got his breakthrough in 1943 after playing the lead role in the Rokeby film The Man With Grey

His next appearance was his role as Lawrence Rains in The Lamp Still Burns in 1943. The death of Stewart Granger

Stewart Granger released his autobiography, “Sparks Fly Upward” in 1981 and then appeared in a few other films before gradually retiring from screens in the late 80s. The legendary actor died in August 1993 after battling cancer prostate and bones. He was 80 at the time. Granger was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1980 and told he had three months to live.

For someone who smokes 60 cigarettes a day, he believes the doctor and has an operation with one of his lungs removed. But later it was discovered that all he had then was tuberculosis. However, the cancer still made its way through his body and claimed his life in 1993.
