Sonequa Martin-Green was born on March 21, 1985 in Russellville, Alabama, U.S.. In 2005, she made her film debut in the indie movie Not Quite Right. She then made her first television appearance three years after with a guest appearance in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Her first recurring role was as Kanessa Jones in Army Wives. Further recognition on the small screen came after landing the role of Courtney in The Good Wife.

After appearing as Joanna in an episode of Gossip Girl and for appearing in five episodes of NYC 22, she became further known for her role as Sasha in The Walking Dead. Starting out as a recurring character in Season 3, she has since become a regular cast since the show’s fourth season up to its upcoming sixth season. Simultaneously, she played Tamara in Once Upon a Time.
