Sarah McLachlan, the renowned Canadian singer-songwriter, has not only left an indelible mark on the music industry but has also embraced the joys of motherhood.
She entered a new chapter in her life in 1997 when she married her drummer, Ashwin Sood, in a picturesque ceremony in Jamaica.
Tragically, the excitement of impending motherhood was met with the profound loss of her mother, who succumbed to cancer in December 2001 while Sarah was pregnant with her first child. This poignant moment in her life would shape the emotional landscape of her future work.
Amid the emotional turbulence, Sarah McLachlan continued to pour her heart into her music. During the creation of her next album, “Afterglow,” she welcomed her first child, a daughter named India, into the world. India was born on April 6, 2002, in Vancouver, marking the beginning of Sarah’s journey as a mother.
The melodies of Sarah’s life continued to harmonize when, on June 22, 2007, she gave birth to her second daughter, Taja, also in Vancouver. The arrival of Taja brought new joy and inspiration to Sarah’s life, creating a family dynamic filled with love and creativity.
As Sarah McLachlan navigated the intricate balance between her flourishing music career and the demands of motherhood, it became evident that the musical gene was not lost on her daughters.
Taja Summer Sood, in particular, displayed an early affinity for music. Even as a baby, Taja accompanied her mother to concerts, displaying an innate connection to the world of melodies and harmonies.
Interestingly, Taja’s interest in her mother’s music extended beyond the stage. Unlike her older sister, India Ann Sushil, who didn’t show much inclination toward Sarah’s musical endeavors, Taja eagerly stood by her mother’s side during the creative process.
Whether it was composing new songs or working on an upcoming greatest hits album, Taja Summer Sood embraced the role of a supportive companion, embodying a shared love for the art of music.
