Robert McCormick, 62, of Fort Gratiot, died Thursday in a single-vehicle accident.

Big Boy in Fort Gratiot and McCormick’s Conner Street Pub in Port Huron were both owned by McCormick. His son, Jason McCormick, stated that his family intends to keep both restaurants open.

Following a fatal traffic accident, Amily intends to carry on the dream of a local business owner.

His son, Jason McCormick, stated that his family intends to keep both restaurants open.

Robert McCormick has spent his entire life in the restaurant industry, beginning at the age of 16 at Burger Shop.

McCormick began his career in Houston, Texas, after graduating from St. Clair County Community College with a degree in food service management.

He then returned home to work as a manager trainee for Big Boy restaurants.

During his 32-year career with Big Boy, he opened restaurants in Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and Spain, and he worked his way up to regional director for northern Michigan.

While Robert McCormick bought the Fort Gratiot Big Boy about three years ago, his real dream, according to his son, was to open his own pub. With the purchase of, he was able to realize his dream.

According to Jason McCormick, the pub will be closed for the weekend except for private parties and will reopen at their earliest convenience.

The Big Boy will be open for normal business hours on Friday and will close only for Robert McCormick’s funeral, which will be announced once the date and time are set.

Outside of work, Robert McCormick enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters, according to his son.

Jason McCormick described him as a caring, loving husband to his wife of 37 years and a wonderful father.

Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 5100 block of Lakeshore Road in Fort Gratiot shortly after 8:30 a.m. Thursday to investigate a single-vehicle roll-over crash. According to the sheriff’s department, the vehicle rolled several times.

According to St. Clair County Sheriff Mat King, the crash was likely caused by a medical issue.
