Robert Lewandowski is a Polish footballer who plays as a striker for the Spanish club Barcelona.

Lewandowski began his career at the age of eight when he began training with Partyzant Leszno, from which he transferred to Varsovia Warsaw, where he played for seven years as an adolescent. Lewandowski led the Polish third division with 15 goals in 2006-07, assisting Znicz Pruszków to achieve promotion. The next season, he led the Polish second division in scoring with 21 goals.

Barcelona announced in a statement that Lewandowski signed a four-year contract with a €500 million release clause. He had a year left on his Bayern deal and joined Barcelona for €45 million, with a possible €5 million in add-ons, the 26-time Spanish champions said.

Lech Pozna once signed Lewandowski from Znicz for 1.5 million zlotys in June 2008. He made his Lech debut in a first-round UEFA Cup qualifier against Khazar Lenkoran in July 2008, scoring the game’s lone goal.

He will be taking 23 million EUR per year.

Lewandowski scored the first goal of the competition and was voted Man of the Match in the opening match of the UEFA Euro 2012, which ended 1-1 in Warsaw. He appeared in all three of Poland’s tournament games. On November 14, 2012, Lewandowski earned his 50th cap for Poland in a 3-1 friendly loss to Uruguay in Gdansk.
