Rachel Zegler was born on May 3, 2001 in Hackensack, New Jersey, U.S. She was active in performing during her high school years, starring in several school musicals. She played the title roles in such plays as Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid. She also portrayed Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street and Fiona in Shrek the Musical.

For her roles in these plays, she was nominated for the Metro Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Recently, the actress garnered attention after she landed the role of Maria in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film remake of West Side Story.
