A 47-year-old teacher was killed on Thursday morning after being hit head-on by a semi, according to Lee’s Summit High School.

A 2012 Freightliner lost control on an icy section of U.S. Highway 50 near Missouri Route 7 at around 6:45 in the morning, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The eastbound semi crossed the median and into the westbound lane, where it collided head-on with a 2021 Chevy Malibu.

At the scene, Lee’s Summit High School physical education and health teacher Rachel Stone was declared deceased.

Stone had worked for the school system for 25 years and had been a high school teacher since 2000.

The school issued a statement saying, “This is certainly a sad day for LSHS, and for our area’s education community.” Please join us in thinking about the Stone family as we seek to support one another over the next few days.

Her husband Robert is a teacher at Bernard Campbell Middle School, according to the high school, and they have two kids.
