After a lengthy battle with cancer, a longtime officer Shannon Massey with the Pascagoula Police Department passed away on Thursday.
Prior to her recent retirement, former Detective Bureau Command Captain Shannon Massey worked for the Pascagoula Police Department for 23 years.
He started out as a jailer for the department and worked his way up to captain of administration.
Captain Massey served in the Marines and participated in the first Gulf War before joining the police force.
In addition to being a devoted parent and husband, Captain Massey had two kids. “We were very good friends, and when I came on board, I was working at a prior law enforcement agency and came on as a patrolman, and he and I were working together,” said Deputy Chief Joe Don Cunningham. We developed a close friendship and maintained it up until recently.
The funeral for Captain Massey will take place on November 30th.
