On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, Jesse Douglas David Sturtz, age 23, of Darlington, Wisconsin, went tragically suddenly. He was the son of Brian and Mary Jane (Kloepping) Sturtz and was born on November 24, 1998, in Darlington, Wisconsin. Jesse spent the most of his youth in Darlington, where he attended Darlington High School and graduated with the class of 2017. Later, in 2021, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse with a Bachelor’s in Physical Education. After graduating from college, Jesse went back home and started working as a teacher at Darlington High School. In Darlington, he most recently worked for Wedig Landscaping.His parents, Brian and Mary Jane Sturtz of Darlington, his sister, Laura Sturtz of Darlington, his nephew, Silas, whom he adored dearly, Tyler Osterday of Darlington, his paternal grandmother, Mildred Sturtz of Lanark, Illinois, his maternal grandparents, Gary and Patti Kloepping of Shannon, Illinois, and his crazy dog, Rex, survive him. He was predeceased by his maternal great-grandparents Wilmer and Doris Smith, his paternal grandfather Ronald Sturtz, and his close buddy Dennis “Furniture Murph” Murphy.Jesse belonged to Shullsburg’s Community Evangelical Free Church. Although he had various interests, sports would be at the top of the list. He had a great time over the years playing baseball for the Wiota Indians Home Talent Team.He excelled in sports throughout high school. His senior year saw him earn a spot in the WFCA All-Star game, while his junior and senior years saw him win the SWAL Defensive Player of the Year award. He spent all four of his years playing varsity baseball for the Redbirds, where as a senior he won the SWAL Player of the Year award.

Obituary And Burial Arrangements

The Rev. Russ Paul of Community Evangelical Free Church in Shullsburg will officiate in a memorial ceremony on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Lafayette County Christian Church (11560 Center Hill Road, Darlington). On Thursday, October 27, 2022, Lafayette County Christian Church will host a visitation from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family is being looked after by the Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington.
