According to the BBC, renowned British fashion designer Dame Mary Quant passed away.

Her family announced the news in a statement. According to reports, Quant, 93, passed away quietly on April 13 in the early hours at her home in Surrey, a county in southern England.

Known as the “mother of the miniskirt,” Quant helped popularize rising hemlines with miniskirts and hot pants during the London Swinging Sixties era, leaving a lasting impression on fashion culture. Quant’s family referred to her as “one of the most internationally recognized fashion designers of the 20th Century and an outstanding innovator” in a statement that the BBC was able to obtain.

Obituary

Model Twiggy, another historical figure, paid homage to the innovative designer on social media. She claimed that Mary Quant had a significant impact on young girls in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The fashion icon was born in 1930 in south-east London, where she also met her husband, Alexander Plunket-Greene, while earning a degree in painting.

Quant and Plunket-Greene established their own store, Bazaar, on London’s King’s Road in the heart of Chelsea in 1955. They were known for their “play clothes,” knee-high boots, Mod-era eyeliner, and geometric hairstyle, thanks to Vidal Sassoon.
