Matthew Schneider, who was only 39 years old when he went away after a valiant struggle with cancer, was our President and a dear friend. It is with deep regret that we inform you of this news.

Matt was an extremely well-respected town planning expert and strategic advisor in his role as Director of Urbis.

He was once regarded as “one of the city’s favorite sons” due to the fact that he is a prominent figure in his field and has a strong affection for the Gold Coast.

In addition to his extensive list of accolades, he was a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia, an Industry Fellow of Griffith University, a member of the Gold Advisory Board for Top 100 Women, a member of the Lacey Group Advisory Committee, a member of the Gold Coast Music Advisory Group, and a Business Advisory Member for Study Gold Coast.

In 2019, when Matt first became acquainted with Southport Sharks, he made a presentation to the Board that included a masterplan concept that was absolutely remarkable. It was rapidly recognized what a valuable asset he was to the city, and he was subsequently requested to join the Board of Directors as a Non-Executive Director in September 2020, when a post will become available.
