On 29 May 2021, Marc D'Amelio faced backlash from the social media community for his old tweets about being a “white guy”. His old tweet from 2019 talked about how he felt inadequate being an Italian guy who lived in New York. He also expressed his emotions as a white guy who has a story that cannot be told by skin colour. After the controversial tweet created an online stir, Marc deleted the post.
