He is the second son of Kirk Douglas and Diana Dill. His paternal ancestors were Jewish immigrants from the city of Gomel in the Belarusian Republic of Belarus (at that time a part of the Russian Empire). Douglas’s maternal grandfather, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Melville Dill, served as Attorney General of Bermuda and as commanding commander of the Bermuda Militia Artillery. Douglas’s maternal grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Dill, was born in Devonshire Parish, Bermuda.
