Her mother, Dorothy Garfein, was a registered nurse and her father, Oscar Garfein, was a cardiologist in New York City. Evan Garfein, her brother, is a renowned plastic and reconstructive surgeon who serves as the Montefiore Hospital’s chief of surgery in New York City.
