Lewis Hamilton has been credited with increasing Formula One’s worldwide popularity by appealing to a bigger audience beyond the sport, thanks in part to his high-profile lifestyle, environmental and social advocacy, and musical and fashion achievements.
He has also become a vocal supporter of campaigning to condemn prejudice and promote more diversity in racing. Hamilton was named one of the 100 most important persons in the world by Time magazine in 2020, and he was knighted in the 2021 New Year Honours.

Hamilton’s parents divorced when he was two, and he was raised by his mother and elder half-sisters, Samantha and Nicola until he was twelve.
His maiden motor racing entry was in the Australian Grand Prix in 2007, his first win was also in the Canadian Grand Prix in 2007, and his most recent win was in the Russian Grand Prix in 2021.
His most recent appearance was in the United States Grand Prix in 2021.
Before the 2015 Monaco Grand Prix weekend, Hamilton signed a contract extension with Mercedes until the conclusion of the 2018 season, reputedly for more than £100 million over three years, making him one of Formula One’s highest-paid drivers.
In the week preceding the 2018 German Grand Prix, Hamilton signed a two-year deal with Mercedes worth up to £40 million per year, making him the highest-paid driver in Formula One history.
