Claudette Colvin was an American civil rights activist and a retired nurse. She got arrested at the age of 15 when she refused to give her seat to a white woman on a crowded bus.

The incident occurred on March 2, 1995, nine months before the more widely known incident in which Rosa Parks started the 1995 Montgomery bus boycott. Claudette was the first to challenge the law.

She dared to question the discrimination faced by the blacks from a young age. Her efforts were never recognized or approved in the community due to her age and certain social factors.

In 2018, she was honored by congressman Joe Crawley for her lifetime commitment to public service with a congressional certificate and an American Flag.

While working as a nurse in New York, she gave birth to her second child Randy. Claudette lost her son Randy in 1993 in New York due to a heart attack at the age of 37.

By clearing her name officially, she wanted to serve as proof for the next generation that progress has been made and much more is possible.
