He is perhaps best remembered for his role as “Bruh-man from the fifth flo'” (he would frequently hold up four fingers while saying this) in the Fox comedy Martin. Reginald Ballard was born on October 13, 1965, in Galveston, Texas, and is an American character actor and comedian. Ballard received a full football scholarship to Southern Methodist University after graduating from Ball High School, where he was an all-district linebacker. He also majored in theatre while at SMU. Soon after, Ballard moved to the University of Missouri, where he continued to play football while also acting in a production of A Soldier’s Story, in which he played the part of C.J. Memphis. Ballard graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in English. Ballard decided to pursue his acting career in Hollywood after turning down offers from professional football. His feature film debut was in the 1989 picture Lock Up.
Many various television series, including Veronica Mars, The Bernie Mac Sitcom, The Parkers, Sister, Sister, Just Jordan and the short-lived show Crumbs, have included him as a guest star. He appeared as Butch in the indie film Big Ain’t Bad, which he co-starred in. Ballard is now pursuing a career in stand-up comedy. He also played linebacker for Ball High School, where he was named to the all-district team. He was a lightning-quick linebacker for the Tors, and he was instrumental in leading Ball High to a 7-3 record during his senior season in 1983. At the same time, he contributed to the top defence in District 24-5A that year, allowing just 60.9 yards per game against opponents. Ballard spent his first three years of collegiate football with the SMU Mustangs before transferring to the University of Missouri for his senior year when the SMU football team was sanctioned for NCAA infractions. According to him, he was bitten by the acting bug after attending a college drama class and “becoming lost in a play” while listening to the crowd applauded.
