It was reported that a freshman at York College who had been found unresponsive on Thursday, November 17th, had passed away.
Dean of student development and campus life Richard Satterlee said that Norristown native Ryan Heflin was found deceased in his dorm room on Thursday afternoon.
According to Satterlee, his death was not suspicious.
Heflin’s academic focus had been on sports journalism.
Below is Satterlee’s message to the neighborhood:
It is with great sadness that I must inform you all of the passing of one of our kids, Ryan Heflin. The hall monitor discovered Ryan unresponsive in his room this afternoon. His death was confirmed at a later time. We are heartbroken about Ryan’s loss, but there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding it. First-year student Ryan from Norristown, Pennsylvania, was majoring in sport media. This semester, we as a group have lost a lot of people close to us. Please pray for Ryan, his loved ones, and his friends. Ryan’s resident hall community and his professors will be targeted by Counseling Services’ outreach efforts. If a student is having problems, they can get help by calling 717-815-1506 and speaking with someone at Counseling Services. When a student registers with TimelyCare, they gain access to mental health therapy available around the clock. You may learn more about them, including TalkNow, on this page. Sincerely, Student Development and Campus Life Dean Richard T. Satterlee, Ph.D.
