Harrison Smith, an American football safety with the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League, was born on February 2, 1989. The Vikings selected him with the 29th overall choice in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft after he played college football for Notre Dame.

Smith was rated by Pro Football Focus as the third-best NFL player in 2017. In Pro Football Focus history, his season grade of 98.8 was also the highest among safeties. On January 22, 2018, he was selected as a first-team All-Pro and was named to his third consecutive Pro Bowl. He then won the second-team All-Pro in 2019 and went to his fourth straight Pro Bowl.

Most observers predicted Smith would be selected in the first round of the draft after he graduated from Notre Dame. Behind Mark Barron of Alabama, he was listed as the second-best strong safety and the 46th-best prospect by NFLDraftScout.com. He received a free safety invitation to the 2012 NFL Combine, and he participated in every positional drill and the whole exercise.

Smith decided to participate in only positional drills at Notre Dame’s Pro Day since he was satisfied enough with his performance at the combine. Analysts and scouts praised him for his size, athleticism, play recognition, intelligence, tackling prowess, reaction time, consistency, and output. His ability to cover men to men was primarily criticized.
