Gwen Bass Dies In Murder-suicide, Worker With Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue

On Thursday evening, a man fatally shot a woman inside a Fort Lauderdale home before setting the building on fire and then shooting himself, according to authorities.

According to the police, Richard Kenneth McDonald shot and killed Gwendolyn Lynette Bass-Kemp on Friday. Police reported that they were both 71.

According to a statement from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, Bass-Kemp worked as a billing specialist.

“She joined the city in 2005 and was a valued member of the team for 18 years,” the statement read. She is going to be sorely missed. During this trying time, our thoughts and prayers are with Gwen’s family.
