Gerrie Coetzee, a South African heavyweight boxer who formerly held the world title, has passed away.

Gerrie Coetzee, a former heavyweight champion, passed away at the age of 67.

Coetzee, often known as the “Boksburg Bomber,” knocked out American Michael Dokes in the tenth round of their 1983 title fight to win the WBA world heavyweight championship.

In 1984, American Greg Page defeated Coetzee and took the title.

Coetzee had a 40-fight career spanning from 1974 to 1986 and again between 1993 and 1997. He won 33 of those bouts (including 21 by knockout) and lost six, with one ending in a draw.

In his Cape Town residence, Coetzee succumbed to lung cancer, as confirmed by Strydom.

In consultation with doctors about a week before his death, he was given his prognosis. He passed away with his loved ones close by.
