Emma June Kent, age 17, died in a Melbourne hospital after battling a rare type of cancer. The high school graduate was 13 when the fatal condition was discovered. Last night, Emma June Kent passed away gently in the company of her loved ones.

A uncommon type of bone cancer called osteosarcoma mostly affects children and adolescents. Emma June was only a young adolescent when she received the diagnosis. Emma’s sickness may have been fatal and frightening, but that didn’t stop Emma’s faith, optimism, and joy, according to her family.

Emma June joined the colour guard, a dance and choreography group that performs alongside the school band, when she was in middle school. She was the kind of bubbly, outgoing youngster who delighted in spending hours at a time working on her teamwork skills.

During these exercises, she first noticed a pain in her right knee, which later developed into a sizable swelling. Her ACL was found to be sprained after two trips to the urgent care, and she was sent home with instructions to use ice and rest. But as the enlargement reached “softball-sized,” her parents became concerned. She was diagnosed with cancer after going to the hospital.

Following the news of Emma’s passing, the entire community is now in sorrow alongside the Kent, Schram, and Burke families. The medical staff at VITAS healthcare in Melbourne received a letter of appreciation from the family.
