It is sad to announce that Emily Kincaid has passed away unexpectedly.
Emily Kincaid was published on Facebook as Dominic Chenier gave details of Emily Kincaid’s death
Emily Kincaid was killed by cancer
I wanted to bring something up that I believe Emily Kincaid would have wanted me to share to help others. The story of how this all came about.
Emily had been feeling pains in her right pelvic area for some time. it’s a bit of a blur right now but I believe she had mentioned it to me early last year though she had been telling the doctors she noticed it in 2021. This makes sense because she had undergone a colonoscopy for this issue in July 2021.
She would have me feel a bump in her pelvic area that I don’t recall being able to feel. when she would have doctor’s exams they all didn’t have an answer for it. They would say that it’s most likely due to constipation.
* Here’s the important part that I wanted to convey.
She advocated for herself. She had pushed the doctors in October to get her an ultrasound. And this is where they found the “cyst”.
They wanted to book her appointment to remove the ”cyst” surgically on December 15. She wouldn’t have it. She wanted it out now and she pushed them to get her in earlier. I believe she even cried on the phone to the scheduler. They booked the appointment for the following week or two (it’s a blur now) but it was Tuesday, November 1st.
The surgeon called me right after the surgery and told me that the “cyst” wasn’t what she expected to find. That she didn’t believe it was cancer, since Emily didn’t ”fit the bill” but what she found was very bizarre and unexpected.
We were told we’d get the results back by the end of the week. No calls by Friday. We suspected that it was probably nothing and I left for my work trip to Montréal on that Sunday.
Monday morning she received a call that the results were in and she needed to come to the office to get the results. Sarah Hays and I were on FaceTime with her to get the horrible news.
Things moved fast afterward at MD Anderson cancer center at Banner Health.
The point that I’m sure Emily shared with some of you or would want to share is to ADVOCATE for yourself.
If the doctor tells you something and you don’t think it sounds right, tell them. Or go get some other opinions until the answer resonates with what you’re feeling. The ultrasound sounds like such an easy request that could have saved her earlier on if we would have thought of it sooner.
I’ve also experienced this but not at the level she had when I had this bizarre scab on my leg that I had reported to my physician he believed it was eczema and for over a year prescribed different ointments which didn’t help to resolve it.
Then he announced to me he was retiring in the next few weeks. I told him I still had this issue and I wanted a biopsy was done on it (another simple fix) which he obliged and found that was skin cancer. I then had it removed.
Please make sure to always advocate for yourself. Doctors are amazing but not perfect. It’s just human nature. No one is perfect.
