Dr. Venugopal Menon was born as the eldest of seven children to parents Kavungal Narayana Menon from Kodungalloor and Kadaikkal Thankamma from Elamkulam, in Kochi, India. He grew up with four brothers and two sisters, and under the tutelage of his grandparents. He had his schooling at the Sree Rama Varma High School and Maharajas College in Ernakulam, completing his Bachelors’ degree before he left for Trivandrum, where he did his medical education, earning an MBBS. After serving the Indian Army as a Captain he left India and spent a year in Scotland before arriving aint the United States. He completed his training in pediatrics, allergy, & immunology, getting certification and fellowships in both. He worked as an associate owner of the McGovern Allergy Clinic in Houston for thirty-five years, serving as its President for eight, before retiring. He was also invited by the Royal Society of Medicine, London and was conferred a Fellowship after retirement.
He is married to Sreedevi Menon and they have two daughters, Sreelatha and Sreekala, and a son Arun, who all are married and settled in the USA. They have six grandchildren.
Venugopal Menon has been involved in many professional, civic, religious, charitable, and social organizations and served as the chairman and president of a few. He cultivated a variety of interests such as reading, writing, travel, photography, and being involved in social causes. Writing thhis memoirs was requested and encouraged by his children who felt the need for such a treatise, being a source to establish a base and trace the roots of the family between continents and cultures. He and his wife Sreedevi (Devi) live in Pearland, in a Kerala-style hom
