Dr. Katrina Mears, MD – Fort Myers, FL

Dr. Mears completed her retina and vitreous medical and surgical training at the prestigious University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa where she received training in medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases, ocular oncology, uveitis and hereditary retinal diseases. She joined Dr. Walker, Dr. Raskauskas, Dr. Ghuman, and Dr. Sharma at Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida in 2016. She has been an investigator in several pivotal clinical trials that have led to FDA approval of new therapies to fight retina or vitreous diseases.

She has contributed her time and expertise to further medical and ophthalmic education by serving as a lecturer to her peers on subjects such as retinal surgery techniques, retinal diagnostics, hereditary retinal diseases, and many other retinal disorders. She also collaborated and authored publications of textbooks and peer-reviewed journals.

In 2012, she was awarded the David Barsky Kresge Eye Institute Best Research Project prize and the Obertynski Kresge Eye Institute Best Published Ophthalmology Research prize. She has authored numerous abstracts that have been presented at regional, national, and international conventions and has been published in respected medical journals such as Ophthalmology, JAMA Ophthalmology, and Expert Review of Ophthalmology.
