The star of Netflix’s Emergency NYC, Dr. David Langer, is a survivor of a terrifying skiing mishap that changed his life. He currently holds the position of chair of neurosurgery at Lenox Hill Hospital.

Lenox Hill, the follow-up to the popular Netflix documentary series, and Emergency NYC cast light on the value of healthcare professionals not just in one hospital but all over New York City.

One of the new docuseries’ three original stars, David has his own tale to tell about life and a terrifying mishap.

Most people who watch the program are unaware that David suffered serious injuries in a skiing accident in early 2022.

The doctor described the entire terrifying ordeal in an open letter he wrote for MedPage Today, outlining how it altered his perspective on life forever.

When he chose to explore a smooth cat track led by a 6-foot snow berm while skiing in Colorado sometime last year, he quickly came to regret his choice.

According to David, when he awoke, he was on his stomach, with his neck twisted to one side and blood next to his nostrils.

However, when he attempted to reach out to stop the bleeding, he discovered he was immobile, and the doctor instantly recognized he had suffered a serious spinal cord injury.

David said, “My limbs were pinned behind me and wouldn’t move.
