David Sereda (born around 1957) is a Canadian musician, singer, actor, writer, pianist, and composer who has worked in a variety of genres. The Canadian city of Edmonton is the home of Sereda’s birth and upbringing. He graduated from the Playhouse Acting School in Vancouver in 1977, where he studied under instructor Powys Thomas, and then went on to work in alternative theatre in Edmonton, where he now resides.
It was there that Sereda reunited with Canadian singer/songwriter Connie Kaldor, who encouraged Sereda to devote more time to creating music and performing. Chivalry Lives, his first album, was released in 1981 and received critical acclaim in Canadian newspapers for its wide range of music and the openness of its lyrics: “Mark” and “Underage Blues” are both written from the perspective of a gay male, which was and continues to be a rarity in the 1980s and today.
He relocated to Toronto, Ontario, and began working in the theatre again, this time as an actor as well as a music director and composer at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, The Theatre Centre, and the Tarragon Theatre, where he co-wrote two musicals with playwright and novelist Don Hannah, Love Jive! and Siren Song, respectively. In 1985, he published The Price of Love, and in 1994, he published The Blue Guide. His involvement with the Stray Dog Salons, which are nights of live music, poetry, and drama, is extensive. Tom Thomson was an artist who lived and worked in Port Dalhousie, Ontario, where he currently works with the theatrical group Sheatre, who recently staged his new musical TOM with Joan Chandler, which is based on the life and work of the famous Canadian painter Tom Thomson.
