Bruce MacVittie, one of New York City’s quintessential character actors, died on May 7 in Manhattan.
He was a co-founder of the New York-based Naked Angels troupe and a familiar face in Off-Broadway theater, movies, and television, often playing tough guys with tormented souls.

Bruce MacVittie died at the age of 65. His wife, Carol Ochs, confirmed the death, in a hospital, but said the cause had not been determined. However, from speculations, he died probably from old age.
His wife also stated that the dates for his funeral and burial services would be announced by the end of this month.Mr. MacVittie specialized in portraying tough guys with tormented souls, revealing a tenderness at the heart of his characters.
Bruce MacVittie’s acting style was rough and tough however he was well-connected in the acting world. He was a founding member of Naked Angels, a group of young film and theater hipsters (including Matthew Broderick and Marisa Tomei) who dazzled New York in the mid-1980s with their celebrity wattage and social conscience.
