Torence Ivy Hatch (born November 14, 1982) is an American rapper better known by his stage name Boosie BadAzz or simply Boosie (formerly Lil Boosie).
Hatch began rapping in the 1990s as a member of the hip-hop collective Concentration Camp, before embarking on a solo career with the release of his debut album Youngest of da Camp in 2000.
After leaving the label the following year, he signed with Pimp C’s Trill Entertainment to release For My Thugz, his second studio album (2002). Hatch, one of the most prominent figures in Southern hip hop, has released seven solo studio albums, six collaborative albums, and 42 mixtapes.
Hatch was sentenced to four years in prison in 2009 on drug and gun charges. In 2010, he was charged with first-degree murder and sentenced to ten years in prison on multiple counts of drug possession with intent to distribute. Hatch was released early on March 5, 2014, after serving 5 years in prison. In the late 1990s, Lil’ Boosie’s cousin Young Dee introduced him to Baton Rouge rapper C-Loc. Young Bleed, C-Loc, and MD mentored him, and he joined Concentration Camp as the group’s youngest member in 1998. Young Bleed, C-Loc, Happy Perez, Boo, Max Minelli, J-Von, Lee Tyme, and Lucky Knuckles made up the group. He eventually debuted under his old alias Boosie on C-fifth Loc’s album, ‘It’s A Gamble,’ in 2000, and Concentration Camp’s third studio album Camp III: Thug Brothas in 2000.
