The two people died in a car crash on Friday night in Columbia County have been named as Boburmirzo Sharipov and Demetre Shepherd, both from Brooklin, New York. Demetre’s brother Michael Shepherd was seriously hurt in the accident.
‘Bob’ Sharipov, 20, and Demetre Shepherd, 17, were both murdered in a two-car collision on Friday night in Ghent. A 35-year-old Philadelphia man named Elliot Largent was the other motorist involved and was hurt.
Reportedly, Sharipov and the Shepherd brothers were driving on State Route 9H near the Columbia County Airport at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday when, for some reason, their vehicle veered across the center lines and into oncoming traffic. Then, it collided head-on with a car driven by Largent.
Sharipov’s and the brothers’ car caught fire shortly afterward.
Michael Shepherd, the driver, was rescued from his burning car by a passerby. Unknown life-threatening injuries forced his evacuation to a local hospital.
Sharipov and Demetre Shepherd were ruled dead at the scene from heat burns and blunt force trauma, respectively.
Largent was taken to a local hospital, where the extent of his injuries remains a mystery.
A fundraiser claims that Boburmirzo Sharipov (shown) was a student at Syracuse University who was returning home for the Thanksgiving holiday.
